Danny Sayer scores again as Star win at Heritage Park

Danny Sayer scored the winning for the second successive game as Seaham Red Star deepened Bishop Auckland’s relegation fears with a 1-0 win at Heritage Park.

Star took the lead midway through the first half through Sayer, who powered his header past Nicholas Liversedge.

Bishop created very little throughout the entire match and Star were able to see the game out comfortably for back-to-back wins.

Seaham move up to 10th with the victory going into their final game, although teams around them have games in hand and could drop to as low as 13th should they lose at Penrith on the final day.

Bishop remain 19th, 3 points behind Penrith with a game in hand, knowing defeat in either of their final two games could sentence them to the drop.

Star travelled to Heritage Park hoping to keep a top-half finish alive, while Bishop were fighting for their lives after an incredibly poor season.

Star almost lead after two minutes as Lennox had an effort from inside the area blocked and cleared for a corner.

But Seaham didn’t take long to find their feet, as a deep Josh Baggs cross found Sayer, who’s powerful header flew past Liversedge and into the back of the net.

Bishop rarely threatened in the first half, with Matthew Waters slashed effort from eight yards out the closest they came to an equaliser.

The second half was filled with very little action, with the only chances coming from long range, as Star looked to sit on their lead and Bishop struggling to break them down.

Star held out for another victory, their 14th of the season to leave them on 51 points going into the final game against Penrith on Saturday.

Bishop, however, now need to win their final two games to guarantee safety, or hope Star defeat Penrith to give them a helping hand, although they may be given a reprieve due to their PPG.
